ROBERT BENCHLEY SOCIETY 2012
ANNUAL GATHERING and HUMOR AWARDS DINNER

"Very Interesting"

The Tenth Anniversay Annual Gathering of the Robert Benchley Society will be Friday through Sunday, October 12-14, 2012, in Los Angeles, Calif.

DON'T MISS THESE EVENTS!

The Robert Benchley Society has planned a "Very Interesting" and outstanding weekend packed full of events to celebrate the beginning of our tenth year.

FRIDAY, OCOTOBER 12th.

4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Private Cocktail Reception at an Artist's Venice Beach Studio.

Helen K. Garber is the world's premier neo-noir photographer and a huge fan of Mr. Benchley and Mrs. Parker. Helen is known mostly for her black and white urban landscapes of cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Paris, Amsterdam and Venice. Her images are in the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Museum, Museum of the City of New York, Portland Art Museum, Yale University and the George Eastman House. Those who were at her 2006 reception for the RBS can attest that this is an event you must not miss.

6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Dinner.

We have picked out a Mexican restaurant with theme of the Golden Age of Hollywood, located in Venice, California. The place has a huge collection of movie memorabilia -- don't miss the life-sized statue of Humphrey Bogart. Note, the cost of dinner and drinks at this reasonably-priced restaurant is NOT included in your registration.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13th.

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 m Private Tour of the J. Paul Getty Museum.

Paul O'Day of the Washington "Lost Locomotive" Chapter has arranged this private event at the J. Paul Getty Museum. Paul is friends with Rocco C. Siciliano, a leading patron of the arts and civic affairs in California, whose activities include being Chairman of the Building Committee for the Getty Museum, board member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association (having served as President and then Chairman), Director of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) and Trustee Emeritus of the J. Paul Getty Trust. Note: your admission to the Getty Museum on our private tour is FREE. Parking is $15 and NOT included in your registration.

6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Cocktails and Annual Awards Dinner with Arte Johnson.

The venue itself is worth the trip and the cost of registration. We pulled some strings and got us into a private club that is so exclusive that our contract with them forbids us from using their name in our promotion of the event! (Hint, it's named for a close advisor of George Washington, with the same last name as the chairman of the RBS). The highlight will be meeting Arte Johnson and his wife Gisela over cocktails, to be followed by Arte's presentation of this year's RBS humor awards. Meghan Bradley, costar of AMC's "Mad Men" is also confirmed as attending as we dine with a view of the Pacific Ocean.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14th.

10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Brunch.

We've picked out a fun inexpensive restaurant in Hollywood. Note, the cost of brunch is NOT included in your registration.

11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Guided Tour of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

We'll see Robert Benchley's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the stars of Benchley contemporaries and associates, and followers nearby. The Hollywood Walk of Fame consists of more than 2,400 five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars embedded in the sidewalks along fifteen blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood, California. The stars are permanent public monuments to achievement in the entertainment industry, bearing the names of a mix of actors, musicians, directors, producers, musical and theatrical groups, fictional characters, and others. The Walk of Fame is administered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and maintained by the self-financing Hollywood Historic Trust.

WHERE TO STAY.

We do not have a block of rooms, however, a half dozen or so of us have already booked:
